How to optimise your health

The upcoming Raya festivity, as we know, is not only celebrated by the Muslims in Singapore also indisputably by all who have the advantage of the long weekend Singapore public holiday.

The vital part of Raya celebration is not only connection with family, also the undeniable anticipating to feast on the wide variety of mouthwatering local spread.

In preparation for the celebration, the Muslims observe Ramadhan with the religious practice of fasting.

Here are some easy tips to ensure that you are able to keep your health at the optimal level during fasting (Ramadham) as well as feasting (Syawal) period.

No 1. Eat high fiber and high liquid natural food

Why? to replenish liquid and to prevent constipation

Examples: watermelon, orange, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, cabbage pears, carrot, broccoli, lentil, beans, nuts, milk, coconut water and definitely dates (who doesn’t know!?) You can have them in soups or as smoothies

No 2. Take a break before main course

Why? to allow body to start producing the right enzymes in preparation for meal intake and to reduce hunger level preventing tendency to gorge large amount of food in a short time

Example: carry out Maghrib prayer or do a 5 minutes breathing or stretching exercise

No 3. Boost autophagy in your body with Curcumin/Turmeric 
(autophagy – body destroying damage and bad cells)

Why? fasting triggers autophagy (spring cleaning of your internal body) and consuming Curcumin intensify this process and to reap the optimal benefits of the good by product of fasting

Why? to strengthen and build muscles that might have been lost during fasting and to escalate metabolism and heighten happy hormones

Example: pick 3 energetic songs or music to dance to (only 10 to 15 minutes), alternatively take a walk / stroll geo-caching or birds spotting or even Pokemon chasing

No 3. Detox your liver from the excess burden during feasting
(vital for those with type II diabetes and on long term prescribed medicine)

Why? over-eating especially high fat and deep-fried food overworked the liver and to prevent long term liver related diseases and complications

Example: drink lemon water and milk thistle tea in the morning and take supplement with milk thistle and choline
